If you’re age 16 or older and live within the Herrick Township, you’re eligible for a library card. Please be aware that if your address says Herrick, it does not necessarily mean that you live in the Township.
What You Need to Bring
To apply, please bring:
A valid photo ID (Driver’s License, State ID, Passport, etc.)
Proof of current address, if your ID does not show your address (utility bill, lease, bank statement, etc.)
Types of Library Cards
Personal Library Card
For adults age 16 and older. Allows full access to physical materials, digital resources, and online account tools.
Non-Resident or Reciprocal Borrower Card
If you live outside the district but own property within the district—or your home library participates in Illinois’ reciprocal borrowing program—you may qualify for a non-resident or reciprocal borrower card. Fees may apply based on state guidelines. Ask staff for current information. This card expires in one year, and must be renewed yearly.

Rules & Responsibilities
Card Expiration & Renewal
Library cards expire every three years. Simply visit the circulation desk to renew your card with updated contact information.
Lost or Stolen Cards
If your card is lost or stolen, please notify us as soon as possible. You are responsible for items checked out until the card is reported missing.
Borrowing Policies
Present your card (or digital card) to check out items. Parents/legal guardians assume responsibility for materials borrowed by minors. Fees may apply for lost or damaged materials.
