Who We Are

Herrick Township Public Library is a small library with a big heart, located right inside Cowden-Herrick Elementary School. We serve Herrick and the surrounding township, offering books, technology, and programs for readers of every age, from storytime regulars to lifelong learners.

Our Mission

The Herrick Township Public Library will strive to explore new ways to provide better services, more access to information, and above all, to promote a love of reading in young people. We want to offer something for people of all ages.

Director’s Message

I hope each and everyone of you will take time out to visit your local library. We are so much more than books. We are here to help you in any way that we can.

In 1998, I took over the library director duties. With the help of a gracious board of trustees, we have made many physical changes to the library; moving shelves around to make better use of the space, adding computers and wi-fi. Internal changes by adding new programs; such as the implementation of E-books. During my time here at the Herrick Township Public Library we have joined the largest library consortium in the United States, Illinois Heartland Library System and S.H.A.R.E.

As director I look forward to seeing each of you in the library.

A True Community Partnership

Our library operates through a partnership between Herrick Township and the Cowden-Herrick School District, sharing space inside the elementary school. It's a relationship that's lasted for decades, and it means our library serves both students and the wider community side by side.

We're also proud members of the Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS), which connects us to libraries across southern Illinois, so your Herrick library card works well beyond our walls!
